“THE SPOTLIGHT MOMENT: MY UNFORGETTABLE ANNOUNCING CLASS EXPERIENCE”
By Taylor Gant

One of the most memorable moments in my Mass Communications journey at Bethune-Cookman University (BCU) happened during my announcing class. As a student at this prestigious HBCU in Daytona Beach, I was thrilled to participate in the practical, hands-on experiences that our Mass Communications department is known for, particularly in areas like Broadcast, Public Relations, and Journalism.
For one of our assignments, we were tasked with creating and filming an info bite. My topic was the benefits of journaling. Standing in front of the camera, I felt a mix of excitement and nerves. Our professor, with years of experience in the field, guided us through the process, ensuring we understood the importance of clear communication and engaging delivery.
I started by sharing how journaling can significantly improve mental health by providing an outlet for expressing thoughts and emotions. I highlighted research showing that regular journaling can reduce stress, enhance creativity, and improve problem-solving skills. As I spoke, I could see my professor nodding in agreement, which boosted my confidence.
The experience of filming the info bite was incredibly rewarding. Not only did it allow me to practice my announcing skills, but it also reinforced the value of the content I was sharing. Seeing the final product, a polished and professional segment, was a proud moment. It underscored the practical, hands-on education that BCU offers and the exceptional opportunities available in our Mass Communications program.
