A Special Time in Bethune-Cookman University’s Mass Communications History. My experience as a Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) Mass Communications student has been nothing short of life-changing. Located in the center of Daytona Beach, B-CU provides an atmosphere where learning takes place through experiential learning rather
than relying just on textbooks alone.
One incident that summed up my stay here was a live broadcast for the student-run television station at our university. We were assigned
to cover a significant university event—the yearly homecoming parade—on a cool fall afternoon. This was the chance I had been waiting for as a broadcast journalism major.
Our instructors, who have years of experience in the field, helped us at every stage. They stressed how crucial it is to act quickly on our feet, and I became aware of how much the practical skills I had been studying actually applied in that situation. It was the sense of fellowship, not simply the adrenaline rush, that made this experience so memorable.
There is nothing like the Mass Communications department at B-CU. Peers work together with ease, professors serve as mentors, and there is an implicit sense of pride in representing our HBCU to the highest standard. The department stresses not only technical proficiency but also the value of creativity and narrative, from producing captivating content to working behind the camera.
