Moment of Pride: Inducting New Sisters into NCNW at B-CU
By: Kanasia James
One of the most rewarding moments during my time at Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU) was when I had the honor of inducting new sisters into the National Council of Negro Women (NCNW). As a Mass Communications major at this HBCU, I have had the privilege of experiencing many milestones, but nothing really compares to the experience of guiding others into an organization that has meant and helped me so much.
The ceremony itself. As I stood before the new inductees, I felt an overwhelming sense of accomplishment, not just in the service we do, but in the legacy we are carrying forward. At B-CU, where community, leadership, and cultural pride are at the heart of everything we do, seeing these young women step into an organization dedicated to advocacy and empowerment felt like the perfect representation of what it means to be a student here.
As I welcomed my new sisters into NCNW, I reflected on how much the organization has helped shape me both personally and professionally. From working on community outreach projects to fostering leadership and public speaking skills, my time with NCNW has been a vital part of my growth in Mass Communications. This experience was a perfect combination of leadership and service, all of which are core principles of B-CU’s Mass Communications program.
Inducting new members into NCNW was more than just a ceremony it was a moment I will forever remember as I continue my journey as both a student and a future in the media world.
